NOTICE is hereby given that the Annual Meeting of Members of the Community Health Nurses of Canada (the "Association”) will be held at at the hour of 6:30 (Eastern Time) in the evening on the 7th day of October, 2020, for the following purposes:
- To receive the financial statements of the Association for the period ended December 31, 2019 together with the report of the public accountant thereon;
- To elect directors to the Board of Directors of the Association;
- To appoint a public accountant for engagement review for the Association for the financial year 2020;
- To receive reports from the Board of Directors of the Association
- To transact other business as may properly be brought before the meeting.
The 2020 Annual Meeting of Members will be held online. Pre-registration is required (please see details below).
Documents for the annual meeting of members are available below and at the registered office of the Association.

The 2020 Annual Meeting of Members will be held online. To attend the meeting, you must register for the meeting in advance. The registration deadline is 12:00 (Eastern Time) in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

CHNC Draft Financial Statements 2019

Dear CHNC Member,
Further to our earlier announcement about our postponed Annual Meeting of Members, we are writing to inform you that our draft audited Financial Statements for the year ending December 31, 2019 are now available on the CHNC website (please note, you must be logged into your membership account to access the draft statements). Please let us know if you have any difficulty accessing the statements.
We are distributing these statements in advance of the Annual Meeting of Members to conform to requirements set out by the exemption order issued by by the Director appointed under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act on the time to call an annual meeting of members that is required to be held after the corporation’s financial year ending December 31, 2019.
Our Annual Meeting of Members will take place on October 7, 2020 from 6:30-8:30pm Eastern in a virtual format.
A friendly reminder that the Call for Nominations to the CHNC Board of Directors and Call for Resolutions for the Annual Meeting of Members are open.

CHNC Statement on Confronting Racism

Dear Colleagues,
Recent events have been emotional. Now is not the time to hesitate on speaking up. The Community Health Nurses of Canada’s vision is to advance practice excellence and to provide leadership to promote the health of people in Canada1. This means the health of all. To promote the health of all means that we must call out racism, oppression, and violence, and bring these issues to the forefront as threats to health and well-being.
The impact of racism on the health of Canadians is not new. Whether overt or inadvertent, racism poses a health risk for individuals and for the population2. Canadian research demonstrates that there are health disparities rooted in racism and explains how inequities are also rooted in biases in the provision of health care3. Community health nurses, as experienced health professionals, understand racism as a social determinant of health and practice cultural humility through self-reflection and lifelong learning to redress health inequity and provide culturally safe care.
CHNC believes social justice and health equity are central to all five domains of community health nursing: clinical care, policy, research, administration/leadership and education. CHNC’s strategic priorities include advocating for social and political issues related to health and advancing principles and practice toward health equity.
We stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and racialized people across Canada. We will continue to strive to push and support policies that address implicit biases and systematic racism that affect the health of people in Canada.

Update on CHNC Annual Meeting of Members 2020

Dear Member,
We hope this message finds you well in these continued challenging times. We are writing today to provide an update on our annual meeting of members.
Further to our earlier announcement, we were disappointed to need to postpone our CHNC2020 conference until May 2021, in light of the restrictions and health threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As such, we were unable to hold our annual meeting of the members (annual general meeting) that had been originally called for May 25, 2020. The CHNC Board of Directors also felt that holding a virtual meeting around that time may have been difficult given that many of our members are stretched thin on the front-lines of the pandemic response in Canada.
Below are updates for our annual meeting of members.
Rescheduled Date for Annual Meeting of Members: October 7, 2020, 6:30-7:30pm (Eastern)
CHNC applied for and was granted an extension by the Director appointed under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act on the time to call an annual meeting of members that is required to be held after the corporation’s financial year ending December 31, 2019.
The CHNC annual meeting of members will now take place on October 7, 2020, 6:30-7:30pm (Eastern), in a virtual (online) format.
A formal notice of meeting will follow later.
Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2019
As part of this exemption order, we are required to distribute to the CHNC membership our financial statements for the 2019 fiscal year by June 30, 2020. The financial statements will be distributed to members via email and the CHNC website no later than that date.
Call for Nominations
Given the disruptions caused by the pandemic and the rescheduled date for the annual meeting of members, CHNC is re-opening the Call for Nominations to the CHNC Board of Directors, 2020-2022.

Call for Resolutions
CHNC is also re-opening the Call for Resolutions for the annual meeting of members.

Happy Nurses Week!
The world changed dramatically in 2020 due to the emergence of COVID19, and nurses have shown tremendous leadership in "nursing the world to health.” For community nurses, this includes continuing to provide office and in-home care when many other activities have stopped. In public health, it has meant focusing on case and contact investigation to limit the spread of the virus. While the news is consumed with COVID19 and public health is highlighted daily, the behind the scenes work of nurses which forms the basis for these discussions is seldom mentioned. As a result, there may never have been a more fitting theme; in a time when nurses deserve recognition for the work they do. On behalf of the Community Health Nurses of Canada, I want to acknowledge the contributions that each of our members makes daily. Thanks for all you do; for your contributions to CHNC and the health of all people in Canada.

This webinar will provide an overview of the revised 2019 Canadian Community Health Nursing Professional Practice Model and Standards of Practice, with a particular emphasis on home health nursing (HHN).
With implications across all five domains of community health nursing — including practice, admin/leadership, education, research and policy — this overview of the standards will help you understand how your HHN practice can/does align with the standards. The webinar will provide an overview of the standards themselves, the evidence-based changes made (including intentional language changes), new practice expectations, and the one new standard. CHNC Conference Postponed Until 2021

Given the rapidly changing and unfolding nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the safety of our members and delegates -- many of whom are now on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic -- we have made the difficult decision to further postpone our CHNC2020 conference until 2021.
Our conference will now take place Wednesday, May 12 through Friday, May 14, 2021 at the same venue, the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport.
If you had an abstract accepted for presentation at the conference, we will be in touch with you shortly about rescheduling your presentation.
We are disappointed that we will not be able to hold a conference in 2020, but safety must come first.
For those who had already booked flights, both Air Canada and WestJet are offering flexible cancellation/change policies due to COVID-19 (please see links below). If you have trip cancellation insurance, it may cover you in the event of a business meeting postponement; if you did not purchase trip cancellation insurance, we would encourage you to check with your credit card company as you may have coverage through them, depending on the card.
We remain most grateful for your understanding and patience. We sincerely hope you will still be able to join us in 2021. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with any questions.
