Volunteering to certify with the Canadian Nurses' Association is an important step in defining the unique practice of community health nurses, and the advancement of community health nursing as a specialty. The Community Health Nurses of Canada recognizes and appreciates the commitment and dedication of 91 CHNs in 2011 who can now add CCHN(c) to their credentials. Since 2006, 566 CHNs have obtained certification.
Thinking about getting certified? The 2012 exam will be written on April 21, 2012 and the deadline to apply to write next year's exam is November 18, 2011. Go to the CNA website at http://getcertified.cna-aiic.ca for more information on application process.
For 2012 Candidates (i.e. CHNs Certified in 2007), you have the option to renew your certification by Continuous Learning or Exam. Applications will be accepted by C.N.A. between September 1 and November 30, 2011.
The Canadian Nurses Association offers certification in 17 specialty areas. The certification credential is part of a respected national certification program. Certification became available to Canadian community health nurses in 2006. It provides official recognition by nursing colleagues and health system stakeholders of the unique community practice focus and that certified nurses are qualified, competent, and current in the practice of community health nursing. The official designation letters, CCHN(C), are engraved on the pin provided to candidates who have successfully passed the rigorous national practice and knowledge requirements of the certification exam. CHNC encourages you to wear your pin with pride.
