Keynote Speaker Announcement: Claire Betker, NCCDH
Published on Thursday, 17 February, 2022

The Community Health Nurses are honoured to welcome as a keynote speaker at CHNC2022: Community Health Nurses....Responsive, Reflective, Resilient:

Claire Betker
Scientific Director
National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health

Don't miss your chance to participate in CHNC2022!

The CHNC2022 conference theme acknowledges that Community Health Nurses have been at the heart of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while continuing to ensure that other health needs of Canadians in their communities were also addressed. The past two years have generated an ongoing need to be reflective about nursing practice, determinants of health, Truth and Reconciliation, and more. As time moves forward, the need to be resilient draws upon nurses’ ability to regroup, recharge and reconnect with partners and colleagues.

Our conference brings together individuals who have an interest in Community Health Nursing from practice, research, administration, policy and education. Networking opportunities offer a forum to explore issues of mutual concern as well as exchange knowledge, share evidence and ideas, and generate solutions.

Abstracts are due by March 4, 2022. (Were you accepted to present at CHNC2020? You should have received an update message from CHNC with instructions for proceeding; if not, please be in touch -- you may not need to submit your abstract again)

Happy Holidays from CHNC

(View this message in PDF format)

Dear Community Health Nurses,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Community Health Nurses of Canada, I would like to extend immense, and sincere gratitude to all community health nurses from coast to coast to coast for your dedication and preservation of community health in Canada. It has been another tremendously eventful year, from discovery of the remains of Indigenous children in unmarked graves to devastating floods on both the west and east coasts of our Country. Community health nurses have organized, led, provided, researched mass immunization clinics and changed their care to all populations served. Community nurses have more than stepped up and will continue to provide leadership in Canada to advance practice, promote, protect health, and prevent illness. This holiday, we wish you a most-deserving, safe and healthy season.

Sincerely,

Donna Jepsen
CHNC President

CHNC Statement: Response to News of 215 Indigenous Children
Published on Wednesday, 2 June, 2021

Following the devastating and horrific news of the remains of 215 Indigenous children being discovered at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School grounds, the Community Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC), a voluntary organization that promotes health and advances nursing practice, extends our deepest condolences to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc people and community on this tragic loss, which is challenging to process.

As leaders in community health, we are committed to the recommendations in the Truth and reconciliation Commission (TRC) and to advance the calls to action (Truth & Reconciliation). CHNC’s strategic priorities include advocating for social and political issues related to health, and advancing principles and practice toward health equity. Each one of us, as community health nurses, must commit to active reconciliation.

CHNC members honour the lives of the 215 Indigenous children and their families. We have the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc people and community, and First Nations communities across the land in our hearts. For anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of their Residential school experience, please contact the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.
